What this article covers:

Born on June 12, 1985, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Quintana's journey from a young enthusiast to a prominent figure in the combat sports community is not dissimilar to many others. As a child, he was drawn to the adrenaline and discipline that accompanied combat sports. Growing up, he immersed himself in various disciplines, including karate, taekwondo, and boxing. However, it was kickboxing and Muay Thai that truly captured his heart and propelled him to pursue a career in these disciplines.

Quintana's early training was a direct result of his dedication and commitment. He trained with a lot of intensity, pushing himself to the limits, honing his skills, and expanding his knowledge of the sport. His exceptional technique and work ethic soon caught the attention of his trainers and fellow fighters. It became evident that Quintana  had what it takes not only to kickbox, but to excel as a coach as well.

In 2005, Quintana made his professional debut in kickboxing, showcasing his formidable skills and extraordinary potential. He quickly gained a reputation as a fierce competitor, known for his lightning-fast strikes, devastating kicks, and unmatched agility. With each victory, Quintana's confidence grew, and his name began to resonate beyond Argentina's borders.

The turning point in Quintana's career came when he ventured into the world of Muay Thai. Drawn to its rich history and unparalleled technicality, he immersed himself in the art of eight limbs, training under renowned Thai instructors and absorbing their wisdom. Quintana's adaptability and willingness to embrace new challenges paid off as he seamlessly transitioned from kickboxing to Muay Thai.

In 2009, Quintana achieved a defining moment in his career when he claimed the prestigious South American Muay Thai Championship. This victory propelled him further into the limelight, solidifying his reputation as one of South America's most formidable strikers. His flawless technique, combined with his ability to strategize and adapt to different opponents, earned him the respect of his peers and the admiration of fans worldwide.

While Quintana's success in the ring brought him fame and recognition, his desire to give back to the combat sports community led him to establish Quintana Combat in his native Argentina. In 2012, he opened the doors to this state-of-the-art training center, Quintana Combat Sports, with the vision of creating a hub where aspiring fighters could receive world-class coaching and mentorship.

Under Quintana's guidance, Quintana Combat Sports became a go-to spot for high level kickboxers in Argentina. Soon, his impact extended beyond the confines of his own gym and local area. He became a sought-after coach for MMA fighters, collaborating with renowned gyms and training camps across South America. His expertise in striking and his ability to analyze and dissect opponents' techniques made him an invaluable asset for fighters looking to enhance their stand-up game.

Besides all the in-person coaching, Juan also focuses on spreading his knowledge through online avenues. He has also worked with us here at BJJ Fanatics to lay down some of his Muay Thai tips on film. His offering through us is called “Crisp Striking Techniques and Combinations”, and is designed to be an sufficient introduction for new strikers while also offering high level tips for experienced kickboxers.

With Juan’s guidance, fighters of all levels can begin to understand the secrets of turning their punches into even more devastating tools by increasing their technicality. Cruz Quintana’s comprehensive training system has been honed through personal experience, having successfully installed these techniques in many of his students in Argentina. Now, you can get a primer to help catch you up to the stand-up game, which is something that most BJJ practitioners could use a healthier dose of!
