Joao Chiozzi's Best Fight of All Time

Joao Chiozzi ‘s best result in a tournament is a big one: he was the 2019 Masters I Abu Dhabi International Pro Jiu Jitsu Champion at 94 kg. This is a big feat for any competitor, and it required him to best three rounds of difficult competition. He managed to outpoint Geraldo Junior by a score of 0-4, and things were looking up for the tournament. Soon, he coupled that with two more wins that were even more decisive. After three rounds, he was able to face and submit both Thiago Suagawara and Alex Costa, two well known names on the international grappling scene. As a result, he cemented his legacy as a champion and took home gold in his division that day.

Who Did Joao Chiozzi Lose To?

Most of Joao’s contributions to the sport are in the realm of coaching, but he has also competed as a Team Alliance black belt. When you’re competing at that level, you’re bound to lose some matches. In 2020, Joao moved up a weight class to heavyweight, which is a huge jump from 94 kg to 120 kg: a difference of almost 50 pounds!

Although he fought hard to win the tournament, he wasn’t able to make it out of the first round. This time, running into injury and weight as constraints to competing. He lost the match by walkover, indicating that he was not able to meet the call for the match that day due to weight or injury. While we don’t have the full details of what caused the walkover, it’s worth mentioning that Chiozzi was going up nearly 50 pounds in weight to compete at this tournament. Many factors could have played into the decision not to compete that day.

Joao Chiozzi Record

Joao Chiozzi’s record isn’t compiled anywhere in one place. He has competed internationally for a number of years, gracing such major events as the Abu Dhabi Jiu Jitsu Pro Championships and the IBJJF World Masters Championships, with positive results in both.

Joao Chiozzi Injuries

Joao hasn’t been open with any major injuries, but there was the curious case of the walkover in the 2020 AJP tournament. Since he went up nearly 50 pounds, it’s unlikely that he withdrew due to weight. The most likely culprits here are age and injury, both of which likely teamed up to work in tandem and force the walkover that day.
