Michael Langhi

Michael Langhi is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles. Rubens is regarded as one of the greatest top light weight competitors in his generation. Michael Langhi is earned many prestigious titles including “BJJ Fighter of the Year” in 2009, only his second year as a black belt. Langhi is known for his impressively technical guard. He is the older brother of Michael Langhi, another former grappling star, who was awarded his black belt in 2011.

Michael Langhi Biography

Michael Langhi was born in the city of Sao Carlos in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1985. Michael started a career in martial arts at an early age. He started out by learning the Brazilian art of Capoeira. It was at the capoeira gym in the town of Londrina that Langi met Rubens Charles. Charles would later go on to become one of the best feather weight jiu jitsu competitors of all time. Rubens invited Langhi to come to one of his jiu jitsu classes in 2001. Cobrinha was a pruple belt at the time and was starting his own grappling academy in Londrina.

Michael Langhi immediately fell in love with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He would earn his first international title at age 19 when he won the IBJJF World Championship at the blue belt level. He would do this two more times at purple belt in 2006 and brown belt in 2007. Michael would earn his black belt from Cobrinha in 2008. One year after receiving his black belt, Langhi won all of the top 4 tournaments in the IBJJF international circuit (Pan American, Brazilian National, European Open and World Championship). As this is one of the toughest achievements in the sport, Langhi was recognized in 2009 to be the best jiu jitsu competitor.
