What this article covers:

Before beginning his dominance in college, Tomasello was also a four time Division II Ohio state champion out of Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. He completed his senior year without a loss on his record, taking home 51 victories. Upon graduation, his record was an absurd 178-5. Records like this aren’t compiled and compared all too often, but it’s likely that this is one of the best high school records in history.

In his dominant time as an Ohio State buckeye, Nate was the only Big Ten Champion at 125 for four seasons straight, and placed top three in the NCAA Division I tournament each year he competed. He was named an All-American every year as a Buckeye. Again, this level of dominance is rarely repeated for an entire career. Both his Big Ten and NCAA Championship records stand with the best collegiate wrestlers to ever do it.

The High Crotch Takedown Manual by Nate Tomasello

For the last several years since graduating from Ohio State, Tomasello has continued to impress. Moving on from collegiate competition, he’s focused on national, international, and olympic competition, and medaled in all forms. Although he has occasionally entered tournaments with mixed results, as in the 2021 Poland open where he went 0-3, Tomasello rarely takes a break from the medal podium.

Even after the frustration in Poland, he found his way back to the US World Team Trials in 2021 for a second place finish. Tomasello remains active, and one of the most exciting grapplers competing at the international level.

Nate Tomasello's Best Fight of All Time

For a fighter like Nate Tomasello, it’s hard to pin down one amazing moment in a career full of highlights. We’d like to think that his incredible freshman feat of sealing both the Big Ten and the NCAA Division I Championships with a gold stands out as a shining moment.

It always inspires a little worry when high-quality wrestlers first make the transition to college. In Nate Tomasello’s case, this was hardly ever a worry. He dominated the collegiate scene from the second he entered the 125 pound division in 2015. By the end of that season, Tomasello had won both the National title and the Big Ten Conference title, burying the competition.

Who Did Nate Tomasello Lose To?

Any grappler is going to have several losses on their record, as undefeated records are basically unheard of. Not every tournament can be a winner, an Tomasello faced this challenge in 2021 at the Poland Open.

Although he had already proven himself a professional, international, and even world-level freestyle competitor, things just weren’t in the cards for Tomasello in June of 2021. He lost three back-to-back matches against Ravi Dahiya, Gulomjon Abdullaev, and Adlan Askarov, marking one of his most frustrating tournament performances to date. He’s already placed 2nd at a US World Team Trial in 2021 to redeem himself, and will be looking for more opportunities to shine in 2022.

Nate Tomasello Record

Nate Tomasello dominated his collegiate division in a way not-often seen today. He wrestled to an incredibly impressive 100-8 mark over four seasons, was named Big Ten Conference Champion each year he competed, and medaled in the NCAA Division I Championships all four years, winning once.

Nate has continued his domination in all manner of freestyle events and, although his record is not compiled in a single location, his dominance in international competition is enough to see that Tomasello still hands out more L’s than W’s to those unlucky enough to square up with him.

Nate Tomasello Injuries

Although grappling injuries are quite normal, Nate Tomasello has not been public with any major problems that have cost him time on the mat. He has managed to stay relatively healthy through an incredible college career at Ohio State University, and a consistent professional freestyle career in the years that followed.

Now that Nate Tomasello is a little older, Tomasello is also slowing down long enough to pause for other endeavors. He recently teamed up with BJJ Fanatics to create two awesome products. The first, “The High Crotch Takedown Manual” is a close-up look at traditional wrestling takedowns. If you want to improve your percentages on the mat, this is a great volume to begin with.
