Sneaky Submission Traps From Guard by Arnaldo MaidanaIn 2013 Arnaldo was awarded his Black belt by Gilberto Gabas, shortly after Arnaldo moved to the United States of America so he could enhance his career on the professional grappling circuit. Arnaldo joined up with Checkmat in Northridge California, where Arnaldo eventually became the head coach. Arnaldo is a highly successful competitor and an extremely valuable coach who teaches with an expert fountain of knowledge.
Arnaldo hit the Black belt competition mat with a bang in 2014, as he put all his focus and drive into action on the world scene of professional grappling. Competing at the FIVE California 2 event, Arnaldo won all four fights in the Absolute division defeating guys like;Sergio Rios, Eduardo Telles and Brian Carlsen to take home the Gold. Arnaldo would then make it through to the final of the IBJJF NoGi World Championships. After competing extremely well Arnaldo would fall short losing to the highly talented Keenan Cornelius.
2015 was a good year for Arnaldo as he continued on his winning ways, as he started picking off high profile grapplers. Arnaldo won double Gold at the Las Vegas Open, submitting every opponent in his path to secure his weight class and the absolute division wins. Arnaldo won the American Nationals and the Austin Open back to back, submitting opponents like;Gustavo Pires, Samuel Snow and Inacio Neto. Arnaldo fell one win short in the Dallas Open as he was once again stopped by Keenan Cornelius. Arnaldo fought extremely well at the NoGi Worlds submitting all of his opponents but losing two matches to Felipe Pena once by toe hold and once by ezekiel, Arnaldo still managed to walk away with the Silver medal.
In 2016 Arnaldo won another American Nationals and a Las Vegas Open, defeating Roberto Torralbas and Valdir Araujo in the finals respectively. In 2017 Arnaldo would take his career to new heights as he accomplished his dream of winning the World Championships. In the NoGi division Arnaldo would defeat Roberto Torralbas by a referee decision securing the World title in his weight class. Arnaldo also made it to the quarter finals in the Absolute division, but unfortunately lost to Joao Rocha. Arnaldo also placed second at the ACBJJ 7 and the ACBJJ World Grand Prix losing to Josh Hinger by a gogoplata and losing on points (4 - 2) to Patrick Gaudio.
Over Arnaldo’s last four years he has won many prestigious tournaments as he has solidified himself as a top dog in the Black belt division. Arnaldo won tournaments like;LV NG Open, Long Beach Open, Dallas Spring Open, Fresno Open, Twin Cities Invitational, San Jose Open, Atlanta Open, Dallas Open, he also defeated Fellipe Trovo by a referee decision in a super fight at Fight 2 Win 172 in 2021. Arnaldo is currently a head coach at the Northridge California branch of Checkmat, one of the premier Jiu Jitsu academies in the world.

Arnaldo Maidana grew up in Aracatuba in São Paulo Brazil, as a child he lived with his mother, father and his older brother. Both brothers were huge fans of old Martial Arts movies and watched artists like Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme. At the age of 7 Arnaldo was already heavily invested in Capoeira and Taekwondo. As Arnaldo kept up his training for the next nine years he grew strong and his skills in the striking arts improved considerably. Arnaldo would watch his brother compete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments, and at the age of 16 Arnaldo would be convinced to give the grappling arts a try. After one lesson Arnaldo was hooked as he focused entirely on Jiu Jitsu, where he trained under Gilberto Gabas who became his life long coach, mentor and friend.
Today Arnaldo is happily married to his beautiful wife, where they share a life of love and happiness with each other. Together they have a son named Matteo who is the light of their life. Arnaldo's family are his number one loves in his life.

Arnaldo Maidana's Best Fight Of All Time!
Arnaldo has had some amazing wins over his career as a coloured belt and a Black belt. Some of his best wins have been against quality opponents that have led to Championship wins. Some of Arnaldo’s best fights and wins were against guys like;Josh Hinger at ACBJJ 12, Patrick Gaudio and Lucas Rocha at ACBJJ 7, Victor Siverio at ACBJJ 4, Inacio Neto at the Austin Open and Lucas Barbosa at the Dallas Open. Arnaldo’s best win however would come in 2017 as he competed at the IBJJF NoGi World Championships. After submitting Sanad Armouti in the semi final via anaconda choke, Arnaldo took on Roberto Torralbas in the final. Arnaldo would have a tough match against Roberto as the pair played an extremely strategic game. At the end of the fight the referee held up Arnaldo Maidana’s hand, as the 26 year old Black belt at the time was ecstatic to become the NoGi World Champion.

Arnaldo Maidana has had a superb career, but like most extremely active competitors he has seen his share of defeats. Throughout his competitive career as a Black belt he has lost 57 fights and has been submitted 24 times. Arnaldo has lost to world class level grapplers like;Yuri Simoes on multiple occasions, Pedro Mello, Abraham Marte, Alexandre Ribeiro, Felipe Pena, Gabriel Arges, Dimitrius Souza, Lucas Lepri, Nicholas Meregali, Matheus Diniz, Josh Hinger, Joao Rocha, Romulo Barral, AJ Sousa, Lucas Barbosa, Kaynan Duarte, DJ Jackson, Rafael Lovato, Oliver Taza and tex Johnson. Arnaldo has also lost to one of his arch nemesis on 5 occasions, and is yet to achieve retribution. Keenan Cornelius has stood in his way on multiple occasions including;American Nationals, Dallas Open and the 2019 World championships. The worst loss against Keenan would come in 2014 at the IBJJF NoGi World Championship. Arnaldo made it through to the final after defeating guys like;Daniel Strauss, Eduardo Telles and Claudio Mattos, only to suffer a Darce Choke submission loss to Keenan forcing Arnaldo into second place.

Arnaldo Maidana has competed ferociously on the professional grappling circuit since 2013. He is hands down one of the best Black belts to ever step onto the mats. Arnaldo has a win loss record as a Black belt of 83 wins and 57 losses, including 47 wins by submission.
