Who Is Ethan Lizak?

Ethan Lizak is an up and coming phenomenal collegiate wrestler who fights out of the University of Michigan. Throughout high school and college Ethan has excelled in the grappling arts. He was a three time All American and three time All Academic Big Ten consecutively. Ethan also qualified 4 times for the NCAA championships and achieved a second place finish in 2017. Ethan has also competed well at the Big Ten Conference Championships securing a second place and two third place finishes.

Ethan attended Parkland high school in Pennsylvania, Ethan was interested in wrestling like many young Americans so he joined up with the team. Ethan was coached by Ryan Nun who had a positive impact on Ethan helping him discover his natural talent for wrestling. Throughout high school Ethan became a four time Regional Champion and three time District champion. Ethan also won two state titles and became a two time All American, once at the Fargo Junior Freestyle Championships while the other was at the FILA Junior World Team Trials. 

In 2015 Ethan started at the University of Michigan and made his career dual debut at Penn State on January the 25th defeating Josh Polacek 11 - 0. Ethan qualified for the NCAA Championship but failed to place. He secured a seventh place finish at the Big Ten Conference Championships and finished in the top 5 in his first 5 open tournaments. Ethan managed to win the 125 pound title at the Cobber Open and also place seventh at the Midlands tournament. Ethan finished his season with a 28 - 15 overall record as a freshman.

In 2016 Ethan took a redshirt year as he went on to win the Cyclone Open, the UNI Open and the Duhawk Open. Ethan recorded a 9 match win streak with every win securing either a pin or a technical fall. Ethan was starting to find his feet as he recorded 9 tecnicall falls and 7 pins during his season. Ethan finished his season with an overall record of 17 wins and only 4 losses. In 2017 Ethan recorded his best ever finish at an NCAA Championship by placing second in the tournament. Ethan secured his first college All American selection and was an All Academic Big Ten and NWCA All Academic selection. Ethan won the Southern Scuffle by defeating all 5 of his opponents with bonus points including four major decisions and 1 technical fall. Ethan won the Daktronics Open and the UNI Open, while finishing second at the Cyclone Open. Ethan secured a third place finish at the Big Ten Conference Championships. He also led his team with 10 technical falls and 22 out of his 30 wins coming with bonus points. Ethan finished his Sophomore year with a win loss record of 30 - 7.

In 2018 as a Junior Ethan ended another season with a 30 - 7 win loss record, he also secured a dual record of 12 - 3. He qualified for the NCAA Championships again and placed 4th. At the Big Ten he competed extremely well, managing to finish in second place. Ethan secured his second straight All American selection and he was a NWCA All Academic. Ethan won another Daktronics Open tournament, and he finished third at the Cliff Keen Invitational. Ethan finished with 9 technical falls for the year which was ranked 6th in the nation. Ethan finished another year of scoring tremendously with bonus points as 20 of his 30 wins were achieved. 

In Ethan’s Senior year he was selected for his third consecutive All American and Big Ten All Academic honours. Ethan won his third consecutive Daktronics open while placing fourth at the Cliff Keen Invitational. Ethan had another great tournament at the Big Tens placing in third while dropping to seventh place at the NCAA Championships. Ethan was awarded the Most Exciting Wrestler at the team's annual awards banquet. Ethan finished the season with a 32 - 7 record including a 13 -2 dual record, with 10 technical falls for the season.

Ethan Lizak grew up in Schnecksville Pennsylvania in the United States of America. Ethan grew up in a loving family with his mother Ann, his father Rich and his two younger brothers Jake and Adam. The three brothers were in constant competition with each other as they all loved to play fight growing up. Ethan was a huge gamer as a kid and as he spent a lot of time in front of his computer, his parents made him take on extra sporting activities. Ethan really took to wrestling and remembers winning his first state title as one of his most memorable moments growing up.

He has won many titles along his path including multiple open tournaments like the Daktronics Open, the Cyclone Open, the UNI Open and the Duhawk Open. Ethan has competed exceptionally well at NCAA and Big Ten Championships but has just fallen short a few times of winning the converted titles. One of Ethan's best tournaments came in 2017 when he competed at the Southern Scuffle, Ethan came into the event off the back of a UNI Open tournament win. At the scuffle he defeated all 5 opponents to win the title which included 3 top ten ranked wrestlers, including  #2 Darian Cruz, #8 Nick Piccininni. In the final Ethan dominated #6 seed Jack Mueller 10 - 2 as he was crowned the Southern Scuffle Champion.

Ethan Lizak has had an amazing career on the wrestling mats, although he has not won an NCAA title he still remains one of the best in the country. He has had some losses throughout his career to wrestlers like; Nathan Tomasello, Spencer Lee, Taylor LaMont, Darian Cruz, Conor Youtsey, Jose Rodriguez, Thomas Gilman, Tim Lambert, Nick Suriano, Eddie Klimara, Jordan Conaway, Jesse Delgado, Nahshon Garrett, Kory Mines and Sam Branacle. Ethan’s worst loss came in 2017 as he qualified to compete at the NCAA Championships. After having an outstanding run and defeating; Christian Moody, Josh Terao, Alfredo Rodriguez and Jack Mueller, Ethan would advance into the final. Ethan was culminating for his first NCAA title win as #2 seed Darian Cruz stood in his way. The pair had a close match and towards the end Darian gained the upper hand and defeated Ethan 6 - 3. Ethan was disappointed as he was eager to achieve the title win.

Ethan Lizak graduated from college at the end of 2019 and has plans to wrestle on the international stage. He has never stopped his dream of winning Olympic Gold as he continues to develop his skill set. Ethan has signed on with the Pennsylvania Regional Training Centre where he will develop further with the help from other extraordinary athletes like B.J Futrell, Chase Pami, Earl Hall, Richard Perry and Dan Vallimont.
