Who is Mitch Finesilver?

Finesilver was born in Colorado to Steve and Brenda Finesilver in the mid 1990s. His birthplace just outside of Denver in Greenwood Village is also where he was raised. Mitch and his twin brother, Zach, played lots of sports growing up and developed a reputation for pushing each other to be better. Eventually, the twins were named co-captains of the Cherry Creek High School Wrestling Team.

Due to their major success early on in High School, both brothers were recruited by Duke University to be on their wrestling team. Mitch was the starter at 149 pounds for multiple years, while his brother patrolled the heavier 165-pound division. Mitch worked his way to the highest individual seeding of any Blue Devil athlete in the NCAA tournament, number three. He also qualified for the tournament four times in his five seasons.

As he approached graduation, Mitch put his eye on international competition and began pursuing Israeli citizenship, a mission he has since achieved. He quickly became onf of the country’s most decorated wrestlers by winning his first freestyle championship at the European Championships in 2021. Although he was representing Israel, he continues to train in New York, at the New York City Regional Training Center.

With a rock-solid pedigree in both high school and college wrestling, Finesilver now trains full time to compete internationally. It remains to be seen what he will do on the mat but if 2021 is any indication, we can expect to see the Finesilver name continue to float it’s way to the top of professional brackets.

Mitch Finesilver's Best Fight of All Time

For a fighter like Mitch Finesilver, it’s hard to pin down one amazing moment in a career full of highlights. Stil, some opponents stand out more than others. For Finesilver, North Carolina’s Austin O’Connor made quite a rival. The two met multiple times over the course of their careers, and one of the biggest was in the 2019 ACC Championships, where Mitch won a 5-1 decision.

Any grappler is going to have several losses on their record, as undefeated records are basically unheard of. Finesilver is now different, although his 95-30 mark as a Duke wrestler is very impressive. His last match in college was at the NCAA Championships against #17 ranked Austin O’Connor of North Carolina. He lost a close decision, 7-5, and narrowly missed being crowned with NCAA gold in his final season.

Is Mitch Finesilver Retired?

Although he’s now graduated from college and has finished his days representing Duke in a collegiate capacity, Mitch Finesilver is not retired from professional grappling. He now spends his time training for freestyle competitions, and plans to remain active on that circuit.
