Orlando Folhes

Orlando’s journey began in 1998 when he earned his black belt - 1st Dan - in Judo at the age of seventeen. In the same year, he entered the Faculty of Physical Education and pursued his studies while actively participating in various sports disciplines. He was interested in both combat and non-combat sports.

After graduating at the age of 21 from Estácio de Sá University with a full degree in Physical Education, Orlando pursued further specialization in different countries. He studied exercise physiology in Brazil, scientific methodology of sports training in Cuba, and completed his master's and doctorate in sports science in Portugal. These diverse educational experiences enriched his knowledge and expertise in the field of physical preparation.

In 2008, Orlando founded the CDPD - Center for Development and Research in Sport, a groundbreaking company that revolutionized the physical preparation market. With a focus on innovation and research, CDPD became a prominent name in the industry. Orlando's dedication to excellence led him to publish his first book in 2018, titled "Physical Preparation for MMA - Periodization." This book was the culmination of extensive research conducted with elite athletes whom he worked with closely.

Throughout his career, Orlando achieved remarkable accomplishments as an athlete himself. He secured numerous state titles in judo, became a world champion in jiu jitsu, and represented Brazil as a member of the Brazilian Greco-Roman wrestling team, earning prestigious accolades such as bronze at the Greco Roman Championships and multiple national and international titles.

Combining his passion for sports and academic pursuits, Orlando ventured into teaching and academia. He became a university professor, contributing to the field through articles and methodologies. Some of his notable contributions include Aldo Fit and Fight Training, collective training methodologies for developing physical skills in MMA, and the Small Athletes Program, a program focused on detecting and nurturing young talents in sports.

In addition to his academic and entrepreneurial endeavors, Orlando established partnerships with specialized platforms such as BJJ Fanatics, an American company, and developed his own distance learning platform. These collaborations allow him to reach a wider audience and share his expertise with aspiring athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

Orlando's impact extended beyond his academic and entrepreneurial pursuits. He served as a physical trainer for internationally renowned athletes, including former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos , and former UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao. Under his guidance, these three made their names among the UFC greats.
