Richie has trained extensively with the Cobrinha Alliance and Legion lineage for many Years. Richie achieved his Purple and Brown belts under Rodolfo Amaro from Johannesburg in the nation of South Africa. In early 2006 Richie and Norman created a fight team called Fight Fit Militia as they embarked on a pathway to create Africa’s number one academy. With the rise of Fight Fit Militia in conjunction with Gracie Barra Sunnighill, Richie and Norman have created a reputation for being an academy for families and athletes alike. Richie has become a pioneer and paved the way in Africa by helping a multitude of athletes become professionals and giving them opportunities to train and compete in;Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, Taekwondo, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, Powerlifting, Olympic Lifting, Circus Acrobatics, Kettlebells, Functional Fitness and Mobility, Sport Specific Conditioning and Sports Massage Therapy.

With the success of their brand, the two eventually created Quan Wessels where they now offer extensive training in Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing,  Boxing and all kinds of functional fitness. Richie also offers private coaching with their Quan Wessels Sunninghill Acceleration Program that was designed by an experienced team of athletes within his academy. Their methods are all battle tested and utilise functional fitness training and different cultured Martial Arts practises. Richie is a professional when it comes to pad work, many high level athletes come to him from all over the world to soak in his knowledge of how to throw the focus mitts and the Thai pads. Richie has helped a multitude of professional fighters improve their striking abilities and overall MMA game.

Richie Quan has become Africa’s greatest Mixed Martial Arts coach, as he has taken outstanding fighters and pushed them to their greatest heights. One of his best coaching accomplishments was Cris Cyborg who has become a part of Richie Quan's academy and African camps. Richie spoke about how amazing it was to corner the worlds greatest female fighter on some of the worlds biggest stages like Bellator, UFC and Strikeforce. Richie has also trained athletes like;Don Madge, Costa Ioannou, Renato Sobral and Kevin Swanson. Before Richie was a Mixed Martial Arts coach he was heavily involved in Boxing, where he coached another one of his students, Boyd Allen to the WBA Pan African Championship in Boxing.

Richie Quan was born in Gauteng Johannesburg, South Africa on October the 26th in 1985, he is currently 36 years of age.

Richie Quan began his coaching career in 2002 while living in California in the United States of America. Over the years he has trained many accomplished fighters like;Renato "Babalu" Sobral, Kimo Leopoldo, Justin Levens, Erick "Bad" Apple, Kevin "Cub" Swanson and the multiple World Jiu Jitsu Champion and phenom Marcio “Pe de Pano” Cruz. Richie has also guided many athletes to Extreme Fighting Championship title belts including dual champions;Norman Wessels (Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight) Garreth McLellan (2 x Middleweight) Demarte Pena (Bantamweight and Featherweight) and JP Buys (Flyweight and Bantamweight). He also coached single champions Costa Ioannou, Martin Van Staden, Don Madge, Boyd Allen and Igeu Kabasa. Richie is extremely proud of what he has created, taking 13 seasoned athletes and turning them into EFC Champions. Richie was awarded the Coach of the Year in the most recent EFC Worldwide Annual Awards, as he is widely considered one of the world’s best coaches. 

Richie also coached Boyd Allen in his triumph at the 2019 WBA Pan African Championship in Boxing. Richie's most notable coaching accomplishment came after he began coaching the world famous Cris Cyborg. Richie spoke about how she is pound for pound one of the best female fighters in the world, and after winning the Bellator Featherweight World Championship, he was honoured to sit in her corner. Among his many accreditations, Richie is also the former South African head coach for the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Richie is also a referee for many local Jiu Jitsu competitions, as guiding many athletes from young to old Is one of his many passions.
