He had a successful career as a freestyle wrestler, winning multiple national and international tournaments, and even competed for a spot on the United States Olympic team in 2008. However, he ultimately fell short of making the team. After his competitive career, Esposito began coaching and has become a highly respected figure in the wrestling world.

Zach Esposito began his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Wyoming in 2007. He then joined the Oklahoma State Cowboys wrestling team as an assistant coach in 2008, where he has remained ever since. In his 13-year tenure at Oklahoma State, Zach Esposito has established himself as one of the most successful coaches in college wrestling history. He has coached 63 athletes to All-American selections and 10 NCAA champions. Under his guidance, the Oklahoma State Cowboys have won four NCAA team championships. In addition to his team successes, Esposito has also received personal recognition for his coaching achievements. He was named the NWCA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2014 and has been a finalist for the award on four other occasions.

Is Zach Esposito Retired?

Zach Esposito retired from competition after the 2006 NCAA championships. He was inducted into the Oklahoma State University Athletics Hall of Honor in 2015, The Oklahoma State Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2018, and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2021. He’s one of the most pedigreed athletes to work with us here at BJJ Fanatics.
