When it comes to family names, there are none larger than ‘Gracie’ in the Jiu Jitsu world. Simply having the name carries with it an expectation of success on the mat for all who are born into the Gracie lineage. Unlike many martial arts, the history of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is still very modern. It is widely accepted that a Japanese diplomat named Maeda first taught the art to Carlos Gracie, who in turn shared the techniques with his younger brother Helio. The two would go on to become recognized as the founders of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Clark Gracie is the great grandson of Carlos Gracie, placing him only a few generations away from one of the actual founders of the sport. Clark’s father, Carley, was the son of Carlson Gracie, himself a child of Carlos. This family association means that Jiu Jitsu is in Clark's blood. He was raised on the mats and began his training at a very young age.

How Much is Clark Gracie Worth?

Clark Gracie has been very successful, both in competition and in teaching the art of Jiu Jitsu. His competition prowess translates directly into a clear, concise teaching style that speaks from experience. As he has transitioned to ownership of his own academy, Clark Gracie Jiu Jitsu, he has also begun to create instructional products in collaboration with BJJFanatics. According to estimates, Clark Gracie is worth around 1.5 million dollars in 2021.

How Tall is Clark Gracie?

Clark is an averaged sized Jiu Jitsu competitor for his 82 kg division. Standing at about 5 feet 11 inches, he wasn’t born with the natural height and length that some of the other well known gracies, like Royce and Roger, are known for.

How Much Does Clark Gracie Weigh?

Clark Gracie competed in the middleweight class in competition at 82 kg, which is 181 pounds. This division has been incredibly competitive for the duration of Clark’s career, hosting all-time greats like Andre Galvao and JT Torres, among many other well known grapplers.

Clark Gracie Fight List

Clark Gracie has fought an incredibly long list of well-pedigreed opponents over his very active career. With 67 matches recorded as a professional, the list of competitors who Clark has squared off with is too long to list here. Some of his greatest accomplishments as a black belt in the sport include:

  • IBJJF American Nationals, 2010 - 1st Place
  • IBJJF Pans Championship, 2011 - 3rd Place
  • IBJJF World Championship, 2011 - 3rd Place
  • IBJJF World Championship NoGi, 2012 - 2nd Place
  • IBJJF Pans Championship, 2013 - 1st Place
  • UAEJJF US National Pro, 2015 - 1st Place

Clark Gracie's Best Fight of All Time

It’s hard to name a single moment in such an amazing career, but the excitement of the 2013 IBJJF Pans Championship against Marcelo Mafra is undeniable. Clark Gracie was down on points with only 30 seconds left to go when he was able to secure the head and arm of Mafra in a gi choke and get the tap. Given that he was just seconds away from losing the final match of such a big tournament, this submission victory stands out as one of his finest moments.

Who Did Clark Gracie Lose To?

Clark Gracie has faced some legendary opponents in tightly contested contests that resulted in losses. To his credit, he continues to take matchups against the absolute best that the sport has to offer. Some of his notable matches that resulted in losses were against Andre Galvao, JT Torres, Victor Estima, and Keenan Cornelius. All four of these grapplers are well known professionals who represent the pinnacle of martial arts. For Clark to regularly compete at this level is a proud accomplishment in and of itself.

Clark Gracie Record

Clark Gracie’s professional grappling record is a long one, standing at 36 wins and 31 losses. These numbers don’t tell the whole story, however. Clark holds many impressive grappling titles from throughout his career, and has consistently taken on any and all opponents. Many of his losses came at the hands of future, or current, world champions. It’s safe to say the degree of competition for Clark has been extremely high;he even went up a weight class to challenge phenom Keenan Cornelius at 85 kg.

Clark Gracie Injuries

Jiu Jitsu is a sport that takes a toll on the body, and Clark Gracie is no exception. The majority of his career demonstrates constant participation in tournaments and a relatively healthy body. In 2018, however, Clark Gracie was replaced by Sergio Moraes in a super fight against Gilbert Dorinho. That match was supposed to take place for Dorinho and Clark Gracie in September of 2018 at the Gracie Pro tournament, but never occurred.

The word around Jiu Jitsu insiders at the time was that Clark endured a ‘minor’ knee injury but the severity remains in question as Clark returns to competition. With the pandemic restrictions from 2020 beginning to ease and tournament schedules picking back up across the country, we can anticipate a strong return from Clark in the near future.

Is Clark Gracie Retired?

Clark Gracie is not officially retired from competition. His academy’s website still notes him as an active competitor, and he can boast a competition record through 2019. In late 2018, Clark was forced to pull out of a highly-anticipated matchup with Gilbert Dorinho due to a knee injury. His success in future competitions remains to be seen as the 37 year old competitor and instructor continues to focus on growing his game and helping his students progress.
