The Choke Encyclopedia by Deborah Gracie

In 2007 Deborah and her family moved to Connecticut in the United States of America. Her father Marcio Stambowsky opened his own academy and began teaching classes. Deborah was a Blue belt in Jiu Jitsu as she would assist her father in coaching mainly children's classes. As Deborah adapted to her new life in America she continued to visit Rio De Janeiro, where she kept up her training with Professor Jefferson Moura from Gracie Barra headquarters and Professor Roberto Correa from Gordo Jiu Jitsu Academy. Over the next few years Deborah focused mainly on coaching, but also competed in some high profile tournaments. Deborah competed at a few Naga World Championships, where she managed to secure a Silver medal as a Blue belt and a Bronze medal as a Purple belt. Deborah also became the (CTBJJF) Connecticut State Champion in 2013 as Purple belt.

As Deborah continued to improve her skills she was promoted to the rank of Brown belt. Deborah was fast becoming a female role model as she had a profound outlook of her Martial Arts. Deborah's values aligned with the philosophy of Helio Gracie, as she believes in the self defense aspects of Jiu Jitsu rather than the sports based ideology. Deborah was impressed with the growth of Jiu Jitsu in the United Arab Emirates, as she was a big fan of the work that Sheik Mohammed Bin Zayed was doing. The concept of adding Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to the country's school curriculum was an idea that resonated highly with Deborah. In 2015 Deborah applied to become an instructor in what was now being considered as the Mecca of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Deborah's application was accepted and she was off to Dubai to become a full time instructor. Deborah was posted into an all girls school called Um Al Fadhel, where she took charge of the kids program. Deborah's coaching style had an immediate impact on her team as she enjoyed competition success. Deborah guided five of her students to the podium at the Abu Dhabi World Pro, and her team secured first place overall in the female rankings. Deborah was becoming a prolific coach and an exceptional role model as she kept on teaching her father's self defense system. In November of 2015 Deborah was promoted to the illustrious rank of Black belt by one of her idols, Renzo Gracie. The ceremony was a request from her father Marcio Stambowsky who could not be there, but was happy for Renzo to tie the belt around his daughter's waist.

Since receiving her Black belt, Deborah has begun hosting seminars across America. She holds numerous women's self defense seminars at many gyms across the US, including her cousins academies like Igor Gracie, Renzo Gracie and many other High level academies. Deborah is always on a continuous path of improvement as she develops her skill level through various means, like becoming certified in Natural Gymnastics. Deborah has one goal in mind for her overall career, that is to be as healthy and able to train in her later years just like her father Marcio Stambowsky and her idol and creator of "Ginastica Natural" Alvaro Romano. Deborah's philosophy in life and Jiu Jitsu are highly regarded as she is admired worldwide by many women and athletes of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
