IBJJF to Begin Awarding Cash Prizes!
Over the past few years there’s been several new grappling promotions emerging.
The rulesets vary, and so do the formats, but many of them have something in common. They pay their athletes, and many of them, pay them very well. Promotions such as Fight to Win have been able to take good care of those who have elected to compete for them. In the case of Fight to Win, Seth Daniels began with the idea of the athlete in mind, and managed to keep it that way, handing out significant sums of money to competitors over the short time that F2W has been active.
The IBJJF has been a flagship organization in BJJ competition for many years, and it seems that they’ve now decided that its time to reward their competitors for a job well done.

The IBJJF is now going to begin awarding cash prizes to competitors in the adult black belt division. The amounts to be paid will vary on how many competitors are in each division, with the absolute division carrying the largest dollar amount for whoever takes the honors, and men and women will be paid the same amount of money.
This is definitely a step in the right direction. The amount of work that so many of the elite level athletes put in is staggering. Day in and day out, these top tier competitors sacrifice much to claim their place at the top, and they deserve to be rewarded for their efforts.
