Abu Dhabi Grand Slam London and King of the Mat – Lightweight Division
On March 9-10, 2019, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam London will be taking place at the Cooper Box Arena in London. This year marked the fifth year of the Grand Slam tour. The Grand Slam is one of the most prestigious and highest paid jiu jitsu world tours. It is managed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Jiu Jitsu Federation, and is supported by his Highness the Supreme Prince and Commander in Chief of the United Arab Emirates National Army, H.H. Sheik Mohamen Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
King of the Mat – Lightweight Division
This tournament has a total prize of $120,000- with cash prizes from $500 for a blue belt gold medalist, to $2500 for black belt champions. In addition to this prestigious Grand Slam tournament, the lightweight division of the Abu Dhabi King of the Mats will take place on the second day of the event. This is an invitational tournament for athletes at 69 kilograms, who have either won a past Abu Dhabi World Pro or an Abu Dhabi Grand Slam event. The competitors will face off in 6 minute matches, in a two group round robin style format, with the number one and number two placing competitor advancing to the semi-finals. The competitors for the King of the Mats include multiple IBJJF and Abu Dhabi champions including: Gianni Grippo, Paulo Miyao, Isaac Doederlein, Hiago George, Carlos Alberto da Silva, Nobuhiro Sawada, Celso Vinisius, Joao Goncalves, Tiago Bravo, and last minute replacement Luiz Fernando Costa Vieira.
