Gordon Ryan Set To Take On Rousimar Palhares
It’s Going DOWN at The World Jiu-Jitsu Festival
The World Jiu-Jitsu Festival takes place in Long Beach, California on October 6th!
Gordon Ryan coming back in a BIG way in the next two months. After injuring his knee against Joao Rocha, many speculated how much competition he would see after surgery. Well, if his upcoming schedule is any indicator The King is feeling GOLDEN.
Ryan is coming fresh off of what he called a “tune up” where he submitted three athletes in a row to finish out the first ever Kinetic Team Grappling event. Team BJJFANATICS swept the competition with only using three athletes. ADCC 2019 is right around the corner, where many will tune in to see if Gordon can achieve double Gold which is what his ultimate goal is. After his superfight with Palhares, Ryan is set to compete in the King Of The Mat grappling tournament on Oct. 19th in Cleveland Ohio. The winner walks away with 10K!
Rousimar Palhares is one of the most feared leg lockers of ALL-Time. Watching any Palhares highlight on YouTube will give you a phantom limp for at least an hour. This isn’t the first time Palhares grappled with a Danaher Death Squad member. In one of the BEST grappling matches EVER Palhares took on Garry Tonon. The match ended in a Draw, but both athletes put on performances to remember. Most recently Palhares took on Austrailian Craig Jones. This match was largely anti-climactic due to constant disengagements from Palhares. If anyone is used to disengagements it’s Gordon Ryan.
What will be interesting to see is what tactics Ryan chooses to use. While many expect a leg lock battle for the Ages, there may be a good chance we see Gordon employ other aspects of his game. If Palhares looks to disengage from any leg entanglements Ryan might use an alternative strategy, maybe even showcase some of his Closed Guard Skills!
