In this set up, the opponent begins to open Kurt's guard, so he plants his foot and begins to hip away to allow his knee shield to come in and open up his knee giving him the leverage to do the same on the other side.
Once he has established both knees on the hips, he will punch his thighs controlling the arms of the opponent and allow him to hip away and open up space to put his foot in the bicep of one arm of the opponent. By extending that leg he can work a push pull spider guard sweep that will dump his opponent over.
Depending on their reaction or how Kurt would like the situation to play out, he can either establish a position on top or allow them to come back towards him which sets up the triangle choke submission and armbar.
