In this video Melanson explores the details behind the Power Kimura. He starts off in top side mount. The traditional kimura grip is replaced with his hands grabbing his tricep and elbow. Note, it is an important detail that Neil likes the crook of his wrist to go into the crook of the elbow.  Space is everything in grappling.  Neil explains that the best way to get rid of space is to hug the elbow into your chest. There are several great finishes to the position. Melanson states that it is certainly possible to finish from full mount. However, he suggests the preferred finish is to sit out. Next, he suggests turning your opponents face away from you by grinding your hip across their face. Certainly, pain will draw your opponent’s attention away from any potential escapes.  This also provides the additional advantage of head control. By turning your opponents head away from you and potentially misaligning the spine makes it significantly harder to escape. To finish, Melanson suggest an ice pick motion while continuing to manage the space by hugging your body close to the structure. Well done Neil.  What a beautiful submission sequence.
