Kayla Harrison Wins Pro MMA Debut

Posted by Fanatics Authors on

Two time Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison made a stellar debut in the Professional Fighters League (PFL) in her debut fight in Chicago.  As the 78 kg gold medalist in 2012 and 2016, this Jimmy Pedro coached athlete walked into the cage with the burden of high expectations from the fans.

The comparison's to former training partner and teammate Ronda Rousey will not be slowed by the armbar victory that she was able to land on opponent Brittany Elkin, but the manner in which she set up the arm bar was distinctly different and hints at a vastly different aproach.

Kayla Harrison overwhelmed her opponent in the clinch, controlling her against the stage as she eventually got the fight to the ground and moved from one dominant position to the next.  Utilizing powerful punches to open up the transitions until she was able to secure the finishing arm bar, showed a smart game plan that didn't overly rely on her judo skills to dominate the fight.  This was truly an MMA battle and her opponent was kept on the defensive the entire time.

Check out Kayla's "The Real Judo Chop and Other Favorites" instructional available from BJJ Fanatics.  You'll be able to learn the armbar she used to finish the fight, but learning the strikes and body shots will be up to you!
