#1: How To Defend The Double Leg Takedown
The double leg take down is one of the most common take downs in grappling. This is a really impressive double leg take down defense. Remember that timing is important when defending the double leg. When your opponent is looking for a double leg take down the first thing you want to do is stop his momentum. Hip check your training partner as soon as he shoots and come over with a cross face to turn his head to the inside. This now means that you no longer have to fight both of his arms. Now sprawl and cover his head with your hips. The next thing you do after you sprawl is reach for a seat belt grip under your training partner’s stomach, pushing his head down and tipping him over, finishing directly in side control.
#2: The Umbrella Guard by Hudson Taylor
This guard is a bit different than many traditional guards. Taylor’s primary goal with this guard is to set himself up take his opponent down using wrestling. The umbrella guard allows Hudson Taylor to come up to his knees in a way where he remains facing his opponent. This enables him to start some type of take down. There are opportunities for single leg, double leg, or other positions often used in wrestling. This is a great technique, especially if your primary grappling experience is wrestling. By setting yourself to get into positions you are familiar with, you give yourself a huge advantage, especially against an opponent who is only familiar with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques.
Wrestling is one of the oldest grappling forms there are literally hundreds of its methods used in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition. The essence of Jiu jitsu has been around for many years in these age old arts. Wrestling can help you in many different ways, as demonstrated here by Hudson Taylor.
