Fanatics Spotlight On Black Belt Matheus Gonzaga
by Todd M. Shaffer, September 25, 2018
One of the leading young gun black belt competitors out there today is Matheus Gonzaga. At just 23 years old, he is fast making moves on the competition scene and is definitely an up and coming black belt to watch out for in the lighter weight classes.
In just his first year at black belt he has had great showings at the 2018 No Gi Pans and several IBJJF Boston Opens. Residing in Boston and training out of the Bernardo Faria Academy, Matheus Gonzaga is looking to build on the incredible success he found in the lower belts, capped off with an IBJJF World Title at Purple Belt.

Matheus' story is not only a great one due to his hard work and competitive prowess, but also the fact that he was introduced into the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after facing bullying in school as a youth. He is proof positive that BJJ can help change the course of someone's life who is facing bullying and other hardships.
Check out this video of Matheus teaching a powerfully deadly mounted collar choke on 5X World Champion Bernardo Faria.
