Kron Gracie Victorious!
Representing the legendary Gracie Family, Kron Gracie made his UFC debut on the promotion’s first card on ESPN. This marks the first time a Gracie has been victorious in the Octagon since his Uncle Royce last won at UFC 4 in 1994. It felt right.
Kron Gracie has grown up Gracie and that’s for sure. He is the son of Legendary Rickson Gracie. So to say there was a fair amount of expectations and pressure on Kron would be an understatement. Kron has been involved in martial arts all of his life but has shifted his focus from competing in Jiu-Jitsu to MMA over the last five years.
Although it was his UFC debut Kron showed zero UFC “jitters”. Kron has fought numerous times in Japan for both RFC and Rizin. In his promotional debut he fought the always tough Alex Caceres. If we said the fight was textbook Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, you could probably imagine how it went.

It was a grappling clinic. Strikes to close the distance. Clinch against the cage, and secure a takedown. From there it was all back control until the eventual RNC finish. In that simple explanation contains DECADES of Jiu-Jitsu sharpened and perfected by Kron, his family, as well as the Jiu-Jitsu community overall.
Kron even utilized a cross hook from the rear clinch as seen in Renzo Gracie’s last MMA bout with Japanese legend Yuki Kondo. This allowed Kron to get the battle to the floor. After hitting the canvas Kron immediately rolled over his opponent’s back to secure the other hook which he transitioned to a body triangle.
The sky seems to be the limit for Kron. The UFC’s Featherweight division is stacked with highly competitive talent. While it may take him a bit to crack the top 10 and eventually the top 5 but it may be safe to say that NO ONE in that division currently has the grappling chops to match Kron. Here is a quick post fight interview to give you a little more insight into Kron Gracie.
Another important thing to note is Kron’s willingness to absorb striking knowledge from those around him. He is training partners with the likes of the Diaz brothers as well as having numerous pro boxers come to his gym to help him to prepare for his bouts. Kron’s striking will continue to grow as he obviously continues to be one of the best Jiu-Jitsu representatives currently fighting MMA.
Fundamentals are a key component to any grappler’s game. They provide the framework for never ending expansion into your Jiu-Jitsu journey.
