Could She Be The Female BJJ GOAT?
Earlier this month, when the IBJJF held their No Gi World Championships in Anaheim, CA, a familiar name won the Women’s Black Belt Lightweight Title.
Luanna Alzuguir, one of the greatest BJJ competitors of her generation- being a 5 IBJJF Black Belt World Champion (2009. 2010. 2011. 2012. And 2013), one time World BJJ Open Class Champion, and a ADCC Champion in 2009, was able to secure her first IBJJF No Gi World Championship in the 71.5 kg weight division, defeating Claudio do Val, 4-4, 2-1 advantage.
This feat was even more remarkable as she had not been an active competitor in the last few years, with her last major title (IBJJF Black Belt World Championships) in 2013.

Luanna Alzuguir Biography:
Luanna was born on August 16th, 1985 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She began training and competing in jiu jitsu at the age of nine, under coach Marcelo Mathias. When she became an orange belt, she decided to move to the Godoi/Macaco training center for more intense and competitive training. However, when Roberto Godoi (author of The Godoi Side Control System) split with Jorge Macaco Patino, Luana decided to focus on her studies, namely journalism.
Ironically, as a university student, she watched the BJJ University competitions as a spectator, and this reignited her desire to train and compete again. She soon met Marco Barbosa (who had also been a Macaco/Godoi team member) and began training with him and his team. She was awarded her black belt by Barbosa on December 2007.

On January 24th, 2018, it was announced the Luanna signed with Invicta FC to fight in their 125 weight class division. She was slated to make her pro MMA debut against Erin Blanchfield in Invicta FC 32 held on November 16th, 2018, but had to withdraw due to an injury.
